Our Hawaiian name translates as: Great Lakes (or Big Waters) of the people of Canada Wai Nui Outrigger Canoe Club perpetuates and promotes the tradition and sport of competitive Hawaiian outrigger canoe racing and the aloha spirit. Wai Nui Outrigger Club is the largest outrigger club in eastern Canada, with compounds, called Hale's, in both Oakville and Mississauga; a range of single, double and six-man boats; and coaching expertise that will benefit new paddlers or athletes seeking world-class racing opportunities. If you've raced before, or if you want to start, we'll get you where you want to be. We encourage healthy competition amongst ourselves and around the world. In addition to our home regatta, the Wai Nui Why Not, we field numerous teams to races locally, up and down the eastern seaboard, and in Hawaii and elsewhere. Come down for an introduction to the fundamentals of outrigger canoeing; or to find world-class paddlers on the water. Join us to participate in the worlds' best sport. For youth, we offer opportunities to experience this unique sport in summer camps. Our PaddleAll program, started in 2006, offers canoeing programs for people with disabilities, aged 12 and upwards, and our PaddleAll athletes experienced unprecedented success at the World Canoe and Kayak Championships in 2009. In 2009 we also introduced seniors paddling programs. Join us to get fit; to experience the thrill of competition on the Great Lakes and oceans of the world. Outrigger Paddling builds healthy communities and strengthens volunteerism: it promotes a healthy live-long active lifestyle; enhances physical and mental health; promotes care of and appreciation for an environment blessed by nature; it celebrates Canadian canoe and paddle heritage and excellence.
